Who foots bill for tobacco plan?
I am writing to express my
dismay at the latest proposal
about the display of cigarettes in shops which is
being considered by the government.
Has anyone considered the practical implications of such a move?
As a small shopkeeper we would be forced with two shop fitting problems:
To refit the area from which the cigarette gantry has been removed
To somehow create the space elsewhere which is out of sight and able to carry the cigarette and tobacco previously on display.
Who is expected to bear the cost of such an alteration? The cigarette manufacturers? The government? Or the shopkeeper?
When faced with the continual increase in competition from the major supermarkets and their increasing move into local shopping, this latest idea could create more hardship for the independent retailer and may be the last straw for some.
