Steve Parker, one of the longest-serving team members of any of the remaining off-licence chains, has
Wine Cellar. Parker took on his
role as general manager for trading in May 2003. The Runcorn-based chain, which operates Booze Buster and Simply Drinks, had made no statement as OLN went to press.
Salmond backs Scotch

back ed the Scotch Whisky Association's push for greater legal protection of Scotch whisky after being made a Keeper of the Quaich. Salmond and 39 others were inducted as new keepers at the society's annual banquet at Blair Castle in Scotland.

Somerset microbrewery Cheddar Ales is rebranding to make itself more stylish and contemporary, and to appeal more to foodies. The brewery has also launched a new-look website, cheddarales.co.uk. Head brewer Jem Ham said: "Real ale is currently enjoying a rejuvenation. More people are starting to recognise that it is a great local product that should be celebrated."
