Holdstock campaigns for WSTA

The Wine and Spirit Trade Association has appointed a new policy and campaigns manager. Amy Holdstock takes charge of the

WSTA's work on environmental issues and will support its growing campaign and media work. She has a background in communications and public affairs and previously worked for the Whitehouse Consultancy and Lexington Communications.

Britain's best beer crowned

Alton's Pride, brewed by Triple fff Brewery in Hampshire, has been named Champion Beer of Britain 2008 at the Great British Beer Festival. With a 3.8% abv, it is described in Camra's 2008 Good Beer Guide as a "clean-tasting, golden -brown beer, full-bodied for its strength with an aroma of floral hops". The beer was chosen as the overall winner from over sixty finalists in seven categories. The silver award went to Black Dog Freddy from Beckstones in Cumbria.

Mount Gay takes to the water

Maxxium UK is aiming to bolster associations between its Mount Gay Rum brand and sailing through a high-profile presen ce at 18 regattas across the UK, including Weymouth, Fowey and the Fife Classic. The tie-in kicked off at Cowes Week sailing regatta (Aug 2-9) with a series of parties including The Mount Gay Red Cap Party.
