Mont Tauch targets the younger set

Languedoc co-operative Mont Tauch has launched a three-strong range aimed at younger consumers wanting value-for-money, food-friendly wines. La Maison's labels have been designed by British artist Tim Bulmer and depict three of Tuchan's residents - Charlotte, Roselyne and Michel. La Maison de Charlotte is a Grenache Blanc/Maccabeo blend, La Maison de Roselyne is a Cinsault/Grenache/Carignan rosé, and La Maison de Michel is made from 100% Carignan. The range has secured a listing at Tesco, retailing at £4.99.

Retailers looking to open new premises can pick up bargain sites occupied by closed-down pubs, claims licensed property expert Mark Greig. The benefits include on-site parking, upstairs accommodation and high-street locations, according to Greig.

He is managing director of London-based property agency Paramount Investments, which has sold 192 pubs since June 2007. "There are some incredible bargains out there, " Greig said.

Bag use drops 40% says Tesco

Tesco shoppers used 40% fewer carrier bags in July compared to the same period two years ago,

claims the retailer. Throughout July 2006, Tesco gave its customers

about 350 million single-use carrier bags, and in July 2008 that figure dropped to 200 million. Tesco customers have also saved two billion carrier bags since the launch of the Green Clubcard Points scheme in August 2006 .

Sherry twins for Bruichladdich

Bruichladdich has released two bottlings of the same vintage to enable

drinkers to compare and contrast. In July 1998, identically distilled whisky was filled in two sherry casks for full-term maturation. One cask had contained olorosso, the other manzanilla. Six thousand bottles of each whisky will be available globally through UK distributor Malcolm Cowen (rrp £38 ).
