Beer buffs honouredJohn Grogan MP has been named Beer Drinker of the Year at the Parliamentary Beer Awards dinner. Grogan is former chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, which presents the award. Stefan Cossi of the Thornbridge Brewery in Derbyshire won the Brewer of the Year award, and a Lifetime Achievement award was made to David Long, former director of brewing at the British Beer & Pub Association.

Captain’s facelift Diageo is introducing a new global pack design for Captain Morgan rum into the UK market from late July. The design gives greater prominence to the Captain Morgan character, which has been made to look “more rugged and authentic”. The pack will appear within 18 months in more than 50 countries where Captain Morgan is sold. The redesign is accompanied by new-look POS.

Strongbow makes radio wavesStrongbow is to extend its Rewards Hard Graft ad campaign on TV into radio. Four 30-second ads will run nationally on solus spots on Wednesday and Thursday evening drive-times on stations until November. Glenfarclas whisky at 40A 40-year-old expression of Glenfarclas has been released by brand owner J&G Grant through UK agent Pol Roger. The whisky has an rrp of £350 and is being stocked by Selfridges, the Whisky Exchange and Masters of Malt. In his tasting note, director of sales George Grant said: “The nose is reminiscent of relaxing in an old leather armchair while eating walnuts and chocolate-covered raisins.”
