Lager tax dodgers foiled by HMRC
Customs officers seized more than 50,000 cans of lager from a business park in West Bromwich in a pre-Christmas raid.
They found some 2,000 cases of lager, including such brands as Stella Artois, Budweiser, Carling, Skol, Kestrel Super and Crest, which would have netted £24,000 tax.
HMRC’s Keith Morgan said: “This illegal trade has a devastating effect on legitimate retailers having to compete with black market traders, particularly at Christmas, one of the busiest times of the year for alcohol sales.
“Our work to detect and disrupt the activities of these criminals continues – we will seize the goods and individuals may face criminal prosecution.”
Seven men have been charged with revenue offences following a raid on a major counterfeit vodka plant in Leicestershire.
