Grace O'Malley adds Heather variant for World Gin Day

Grace O’Malley, the spirits brand which brought premium blended Irish whiskey to the UK in March, is now launching its Heather Infused Irish Gin in time for World Gin Day on June 12.

Grace O’Malley’s debut gin is described as a “true, traditional-style gin made with modern distilling techniques to capture flavour intensity”. It contains 14 carefully selected aromatic botanicals from the west of Ireland including heather, wild thyme, red clover, blackthorn, fraughan (bilberry) and rock samphire.

The signature botanical is Heather, which imparts a mellow floral, sweet character to the gin and happens to be a Celtic symbol of good luck. The new gin is influenced by the fearless leader, Grace O’Malley of land and sea, from Clew Bay in County Mayo.

Grace O’Malley’s Master Blender Paul Caris visited the bay and wanted to infuse the natural heather found across it. He said: “We wanted to continue the courageous stories of Grace O’Malley through the creation of Heather Infused Irish Gin. We have carefully selected botanicals from the west coast of Ireland and distilled them at a low temperature in order to capture and extract the flavour notes as close to the botanical as possible. This brings out the juniper and expresses the soft and mellow flavours of Irish Heather.”

Tasting notes on the nose reveal an intense herbal character with freshly harvested wild juniper and citrus notes; moving onto intense grassy notes, dry heather and maritime undertones on the palate. Grace O’Malley Heather Infused Gin is described as rounded, balanced with a fresh, floral finish and is perfectly served in a gin and natural tonic with a grapefruit garnish.

Grace O’Malley Heather Infused Gin RRP is £33.99 and will be available to buy from the UK market from the 12th June at Proof Drinks and Amazon.
