The Whisky Exchange unveils new London Bridge store

The Whisky Exchange will open its eagerly anticipated new store on the doorstep of London’s Borough Market by the end of the month.

It will join existing stores in Covent Garden and Fitrovia along with a thriving online business and the Speciality Drinks wholesale arm.

Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh set up The Whisky Exchange at a trading estate on the outskirts of Hanwell back in 1999.

It focused on selling whisky and other spirits online, but it then launched a flagship bricks and mortar site at the Vinopolis development near London Bridge in 2005.

That store traded for a decade until Vinopolis closed down in 2015. The business has since opened award-winning shops in Covent Garden and Fitzrovia, and it is now going full circle by returning to London Bridge.

Dawn Davies MW, wine and spirits buyer for The Whisky Exchange, said: “For the new store we’ve identified the most exciting spirits trends and curated a selection of products that will help customers to take their exploration of these categories to a whole new level.

“We’ll be flying the flag for the growing number of innovative British distillers and winemakers, as well as focusing on more specific spirits trends such as world whiskies, from the popular American and Japanese spirits to much more unusual liquids from far flung countries such as Israel and New Zealand.

“Following a great Christmas for rum sales, we’ll have over 200 different rums on the shelves and, for those cutting back on alcohol, there will be an impressive range of low and no alcohol products.  My passion for wine shines through in this store, with a hand-picked selection of exquisite wines from some of the world’s best wineries.”

The new 2,162 sq. ft. store will be the biggest in The Whisky Exchange portfolio, while it will feature a chandelier made of 700 bottles.

The range will feature 2,500 spirits and wines, including more than 100 produced in Britain.

The new shop will have a focus on educating shoppers about the distillation process. It will be home to a fully functional pot still, as well as an space where guests will be able to learn the secrets of distillation themselves, due to open soon.

Rajbir Singh Sawhney, co-owner and co-founder of The Whisky Exchange, said: “Finding the perfect space for the new store took a long time, but has been well worth the wait. We were determined to bring The Whisky Exchange back to our loyal customers in London Bridge following the closure of our shop in Vinopolis four years ago. In keeping with the regeneration of the London Bridge area, we’ve designed a stunning store with floor-to-ceiling shelves of great liquids for customers to get lost in the world of spirits and wine, with space downstairs where we will take our spirits education mission one step further.”

A team of spirits advisors, headed by Laurynas Tumosa – who has worked in The Whisky Exchange Covent Garden store for three years – will be on hand to help customers navigate the world of spirits and wines.

Barrel-top tastings will allow shoppers to trial spirits, while masterclasses will introduce shoppers to the delights of world whisky, rum and much more.

The Whisky Exchange London Bridge store will open its doors at 88 Borough High Street for the first time at the end of January, with an official launch event on Thursday, February 6.
