John Crabbie introduces two rare single malts
John Crabbie & Co has launched two new releases of rare single malt Scotch whisky to add to its range.
The brand, which was established in 1801, was revived in January this year and has the producer has already released a raft of whiskies, aged from eight to 30 years old, sourced from distilleries around Scotland.
The latest two expressions are Crabbie 25 year old, which has been matured in sherry casks for 25 years; and Crabbie 40 year old, which is non-chill filtered and bottled at cask strength of 44.5% abv.
David Brown, managing director of John Crabbie & Co, said: “The Crabbie 25 year old is a very rare single malt from the same Speyside distillery and group of casks that produced our Crabbie 30 year old. This exceptional whisky picked-up the two top accolades of 2018; it won double gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and was the only whisky to be awarded ‘Master’ at the Asian Whisky Masters, announced last week.” Brown also commented, “Our 40 year old, from another Speyside distillery, is quite a different beast.” Beautifully packaged in an engraved crystal decanter with two signature glasses, this is the ultimate gift for anyone who loves Scotch whisky.”
The 25 Year Old, a limited release of 900 bottles, is described as being “fantastically complex” with all the character of its older sibling (the Crabbie 30 year old) and with the taste of lightly roasted chestnuts, rich spiced fruitcake and a slight tang of smoke.
The 40 Year Old, of which there are only 350 individually numbered decanters, is a one-off release of a single Speyside cask, of which only 200 decanters are allocated to the UK. The whisky comes in a high-gloss, red lacquered wooden presentation box, containing a 70cl Crabbie signature whisky decanter and two engraved signature crystal glasses. It is described as having a hint of treacle sweetness and a dash of dry wood spices, plus a ‘special tang’ of orange pithy, black tea, extremely dark chocolate and chocolate-covered raisins.
