Hanging Ditch teams up with The Wine Gang

Manchester-based wine merchant Hanging Ditch is marking its tenth anniversary by joining forces with the Wine Gang.

The event will be a ramped up version of Hanging Ditch’s annual wine festival, which usually takes place over one day but this year will be spread across two days (27 and 28 October), with three tasting sessions in Manchester Cathedral.

The Wine Gang is a group comprising four of the UK’s most renowned wine experts – Jane Parkinson, Joanna Simon, Anthony Rose and David Williams – and this is the first time that they have teamed up with an independent wine merchant to put on a show.

Ben Stephenson, md, said: “We hosted our first wine fair within six months of opening in a marquee in front of the shop and they have been so successful that we have expanded into the Cathedral next door. This year will be our tenth wine fair do we wanted to make it even more special than usual.

The Gang will be on hand to offer advice and education to Hanging Ditch’s customers and each ‘gang member’ will also be carefully selecting a mixed case of wine to be enjoyed over the festive season. There will be two versions of each mixed case, the themes being: ‘a Christmas case’ and ‘a New Year’s Eve case’.

The Wine Gang will also run special wine walks where they will taste the wines they have selected for their mixed cases with Hanging Ditch clients, explaining in person the rationale behind their choices. In addition, each will deliver a specialist 45 minute masterclass at the fair, covering a specialist topic of their choice.

Stephenson said: “We pride ourselves on the constant evolution of this event, each year trying to produce a better event than the year before, by constantly evaluating feedback from both guests and our wine suppliers.”

The three sessions for the festival will take place on Friday evening (6 – 9.30pm), Saturday day time (1pm to 3.30pm) and Saturday evening (5pm to 8.30pm). Early bird tickets range from £20 to £25 and regular tickets will be priced £25 to £30 per person.
