DBG Italia embarks on new direction

Berry Bros & Rudd has announced that DBG Italia, the Italian agency business founded by David Berry Green, is to become an independently owned company.

DBG Italia, which launched in June 2015, traded through specialist wine importer and distributor Fields Morris and Verdin, which is owned by Berry Bros & Rudd. From 1st April 2017 DBG Italia will be fully owned and directed by David Berry Green, and the company will commence the independent distribution of its wines.

David Berry Green said: “The support I received from Berry Bros & Rudd during my first 18 months as a business owner has been instrumental to the success of DBG Italia.

“I’ve built up strong relationships during my years in Italy and the time has come to spread my wings and promote my family of world-class Italian wine producers to a broader market.”

Dan Jago, chief executive at Berry Bros, said: “David worked for the family business for over twenty years, with 15 of those as a wine buyer. His buying responsibilities saw him sourcing wine from Burgundy, Spain, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand amongst others, but it was the wines from Italy, with their unfilled potential, that really captured his imagination.

“There is little doubt that the portfolio of producers he looks after is unparalleled and we look forward to continuing to work very closely with him.”

Though Berry Bros & Rudd will continue to source a selection of the Italian wine range from DBG Italia, after 1 April Green will be in a position to supply other customers both within the UK and globally.
