Waitrose to stock Great British Home Brew 2016 winning beer
Thornbridge Brewery is in the process of recreating the winning beer of the Great British Home Brew Challenge 2016, which will then appear in Waitrose stores next month.
Phil Sisson’s Raindrops on Roses has just been announced as the winner for the 2016 Challenge, an event which is supported by Brew UK, Waitrose and Thornbridge Brewery. Sisson’s beer is 5.3% abv and it is a Belgian Wit style beer, brewed with rose petals.
The beer was chosen from over 100 beers that were submitted into the competition, and it was selected as the winner by an expert panel of judges including Rob Lovatt, head brewer at Thornbridge; Greg Hughes, director at Brew UK and Sarah Hammond, Waitrose Beer Buyer.
Lovatt said: “Phil’s beer was undoubtedly well made with the roses working in beautiful harmony with the camomile and coriander. A worthy winner from a great selection of beers that were submitted to the challenge which foes from strength to strength. I enjoyed tasting Raindrops on Roses and working with Phil to recreate this and I am sure it will be very popular.
Hammond at Waitrose added: “We loved the fact that we could distinguish the traditional style of beer that it is based on, and that it came with a really modern and well-judged twist. The palate was refreshing and full of flavour, and all the elements were really well balanced – distinct yet not over-powering. A great combination of delicacy, interest and full of flavour, this is an excellent homebrewer that we hope our customers will enjoy as much as we did.”
Raindrops on Roses will be available in 70 Waitrose branches in 33cl bottles from 14 November.
