SIBA expands awards to recognise craft beer sector
The Society of Independent Brewers has added new categories for best independent craft beer retailer and best independent craft beer promotion in the off-trade.
There are two retailer awards, one for multiples and one single-site entrants.
The relaunched Retail Business Awards are designed to reward excellence in independent craft brewing, and include categories on design, innovation and community support.
Nick Stafford, operations director at SIBA, said: “The SIBA Business awards are about highlighting the excellent achievements being made across the brewing industry, which has always been an innovative and open-minded industry.
“This year the awards are bigger and better than ever and we would encourage anybody involved in the brewing industry to look carefully at which categories could be relevant to them.
“Competition will be fierce but being named the best in your industry could be priceless.
“The new SIBA Business Awards categories which focus on independent craft beer are unique in that they are judged by those from within the industry rather than publications or other awards bodies looking in.”
Other new awards this year include best independent craft beer bar or pub and best independent craft beer.
There is also an award for best independent craft beer promotion in the on-trade.
Sales of craft beer were up 2% in 2015 to 913 million litres according to market analysts Mintel. Overall beer sales contracted slightly year on year from 4.29 billion litres to 4.27 billion litres.
Lager sales are down 8% over the last five years, and now stand at 3.15 billion litres.
