Cox to head Carling firm in UK
Molson Coors has a new boss in the UK and Ireland after Stewart Glendenning left his post as chief executive to head the company’s Canadian business after just four months in the job.
He will be replaced by Simon Cox, in the retitled role of managing director.
Cox is currently managing director for independent on-trade and wholesale with the company, which brews Carling lager.
The moves follow the formation at the start of this week of Molson Coors Europe, a new business unit combining the UK and Ireland business with recently-acquired Starbev breweries in nine central European countries.
Cox will report to Mark Hunter, the head of the UK division before Glendenning who left to oversee the integration of the Starbev acquisitions.
He has been with Molson Coors since 2005 and was instrumental in the formation of its stand alone Cobra beer business unit and the acquisition of Sharp’s in 2001.
Hunter said: “Simon has been instrumental in strengthening Molson Coors’ portfolio and has the right balance of experience and determination to win that we need to see beer get back on the front foot in this crucial market.”
