Innis & Gunn launches Highland Cask
Innis & Gunn is releasing a limited edition Highland Cask oak-matured ale.
The 7.1% abv brew is aged in oak barrels previously used to mature 18 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky from the Scottish highlands, and comes in a gift pack, rrp £2.50.
Innis & Gunn managing director Dougal Sharp said: “Earlier this year we were lucky enough to obtain some extremely rare oak barrels from a renowned distillery in the highlands of Scotland. These barrels had been maturing single malt Scotch whisky for 18 years.
“Once they had been emptied, we filled them with beer brewed to perfectly compelement their rich, complex flavours. During a lengthy maturation, our beer slowly unlocked these delicious flavours from deep inside the oak to produce this delicious beer.”
Sharp recommended Highland Cask on its own, or with meat dishes such as haggis or black pudding or hard goats’ and cows’ cheeses.
The beer will be in selected Sainsbury’s stores from this week.
