Former Home Office senior policy adviser Stephen Hogg has joined the Wine & Spirit Trade Association. Hogg will lead the WSTA's work in a number of areas, including licensing, alcohol disorder zones and social responsibility best practice, as well as helping to develop parliamentary links via the All Party Parliamentary Wine & Spirit Group. Jeremy Beadles, WSTA chief executive, said: "This shows our commitment to developing our team to best manage our members' interests." Hogg joins the WSTA on secondment from the Home Office for a year.

Wine winners

International Wine Challenge trophy results will be announced at Vinexpo on June 18. Judging results for the first wave of trophies will be unveiled at Drinks International's stand (Hall 1, BC351) at 11am. The bulk of the medal winners will be unveiled at the London wine fair later this month.

Polish from Pierhead

Pierhead Purchasing has added two premium lagers from Poland to its range - Brok Sambor and Brok Strong. The beers have been produced in Koszalin, northern Poland, since 1874 and will be targeted at the growing Polish community in the UK. Brok Strong (7 per cent abv) is full-bodied with a bitter hop finish, while Brok Sambor (6 per cent abv) is crisp, aromatic and refreshing, according to Pierhead.

Hi-tech offers

Website is claiming to be the first online off-licence in the UK to use RSS feeds to communicate with customers. The feed sends information on product launches and offers straight to computer desktops. Owner Lucy Mitchell said: "We frequently have promotions that sell out very quickly and this gives subscribers a chance to find out about them as they are posted."

Polo hits the mark

Bath-based World Wine Agencies has announced a sponsorship partnership with Beaufort Polo Club to mark the UK launch of the Argentine Polo wine range from La Chamiza. The five-season link up will include joint branding opportunities and sole wine supply to the polo club, whose patron is the Prince of Wales. Beaufort Polo Club is also offering OLN readers an exclusive 20 per cent discount on all match tickets throughout the 2007 season. Quote "La Chamiza" when booking.
