Bruichladdich celebrates start of distillery project
Bruichladdich Distillery is rolling out a Six Year Old single malt whisky to commemorate the start of its project to build the Port Charlotte Distillery.
Visitors to the Bruichladdich distillery will be able to fill a 50cl bottle directly from the cask, unfiltered at cask strength. The heavily peated Port Charlotte single malt, which was distilled at Bruichladdich in 2001, celebrates the ceremonial first cutting of the turf for the Port Charlotte Distillery project.
The new distillery is to be built within existing warehouse buildings on the site of the original distillery.
The ceremony marked the official beginning of the two-year project, which is expected to open in 2009.
Bruichladdich chairman Sir John Mactaggart said: "There are still plenty of hurdles to surmount between this day and the eventual moment when the first spirit runs - the boys have their work cut out."
