Brewery project to help schools tackle under-age drinking
Kent brewer Shepherd Neame is to work directly with local schools to fight binge and under-age drinking.
Sheps is one of the first brewers to sign up to the British Institute of Innkeeping's new Schools Hospitality Project. Under the initiative brewery workers will train to become outreach counsellors who can give talks to students.
Chief executive Jonathan Neame said: "The BII project is just what the industry needs and it sits very well with a lot of the work we are already doing to support our local schools. Allegations of binge and under-age drinking are extremely concerning and we need to give young people the confidence and knowledge to experience alcohol with maturity."
