Black year for French exports

French wine exports to the UK plunged by 21% in 2009, according to wine and spirits export body FEVS, in what commentators are calling a black year for the country.

FEVS president Claude de Jouvencel said 2009 had a “catastrophic” start, but “finished much better than it started, with good months in November and December”.

The UK was the second-hardest hit market for France, but US exports fell most drastically – by 23%.
