Franklin & Sons unveils new spirit and mixer tie-ups
Franklin & Sons has unveiled new spirit and mixer partnerships by pairing two of its variants with a gin and a rum brand to add to its pre-mixed drinks collection.
It now has a ready-to-serve (RTS) rum and cola, made using its 1886 Cola with RedLeg Spiced Rum, as well as a new canned G&T made using its Indian Tonic Water and MistralGin.
The 25cl cans of rum and cola have an abv of 5%. The drink has flavours of vanilla and ginger from the Spiced RedLeg Rum, paired with Franklin & Sons Cola and a twist of lime.
Rosie Crossman, brand manager, Franklin & Sons, said: “We are extremely proud to launch the new RedLeg Spiced Rum and Franklin & Sons 1886 Cola. Taking inspiration from the unique flavour combinations first explored by the Franklin family back in Victorian Britain, the 1886 Cola includes West African Kola Nut and Colombian coffee beans, adding a unique twist to everyone’s favourite, the classic rum and cola.”
Kate Alexander, marketing and operations director at RedLeg Rum Company, said: “The secret to the great taste of RedLeg is all in the blending, the rum is left to rest in oak barrels and infused with Jamaican ginger and vanilla spices, creating a rum with an incredibly smooth taste. Adding Franklin & Sons 1886 Cola adds a dimension of sweetness and is the perfect way to put together a classic serve, that can be enjoyed everywhere.”
The new canned G&T is a blend of Mistral Gin, from Provence. The pink gin is made using 12 botanicals and it is paired with Franklin & Sons Indian Tonic Water.
Corssman said: “The new partnership is a symbol of our ongoing commitment to support and work with craft gin producers, providing consumers with the perfect ready-to-serve G&T on the go, without compromising on taste.”
MistralGin owner Guillaume Bonnefoi said: “MistralGin is Provence’s first and only rosé gin. The recipe was a year in development, and features both traditional gin and Provençal botanicals to create a sophisticated dry, craft gin with fresh, distinctive flavours and a contemporary citrus finish. It pairs perfectly with the award-winning Franklin & Sons Indian Tonic Water.”
The partnership with MistralGin adds to its selection of premixed G&T cans, which also comprises RTS cans with Portobello Road Gin, Manchester Gin and Caorunn Gin.
The two new drinks tap into the growing RTS category, which saw value sales grow by 30% in the year to July 13 2019.
It also taps into growth in the £367million UK off-trade rum category, with spiced rum in particular growing at around 13% in value year-on-year.
Sales of pink gin reached £392million in the year to the end of May.
