Domaine Jones launches Along Came Jones range

Domaine Jones on the Languedoc-Roussillon borders, has launched a new range of four wines called Along Came Jones.

The launch, which coincides with the Domaine’s tenth vintage, comprises wines aimed at independent wine merchants and on-trade customers, and the bottles feature quirky labels with cartoon-style illustrations, depicting the back story behind each wine. The labels aim to highlight founder Katie Jones’ adventures over the last ten years as an English ‘outsider’ making wine in the South of France.

Jones said: “2018 is the 10th vintage for Domaine Jones and in those ten years we have had many exciting adventures as well as overcoming some significant challenges. I wanted to find a more personalised approach to tell my story to my customers and share the back story behind each wine – the unique presentation of the Along Came Jones range achieves this in a fun and an engaging way – visualising the stories really brings it all to life.”

The current wines in the new range are Difference 2017, which is a blend of Jones’ very old vine Carignan and Grenache; Double Identity Syrah 2016: to classify wines under the Fitou classifcation the wine must be a blend, so Jones chose to declassify her Syrah to Vin de France to create the style she wanted; Sleeping Beauty Grenache Gris 2013: is described as “a wine with a fairy tale ending”, and it is an unusual style of Grenache Gris, aged in oak for four years; Hairy Grenache (2018 vintage available in March 2019), is a “Grenache with a difference”, from a hairy-leaved variety, aka Lledoner Pelut, a “lesser-spotted version of Grenache”.

In addition, coming soon to the range will be Terra Tuchanas Superbas Fitou 2017, a premium Fitou made in a ‘Super Tuchan’ style.

The range will be priced from £12.50 to £35 and they are available through Gonzalez Byass UK.

Martin Skelton, managing director at Gonzales Byass, said: “With its quirky and eye-catching labels, the ‘Along Came Jones’ range is ideal for independent merchants looking for interesting wines with real shelf appeal AND a genuine story that can be hand-sold to their customers. They are a great showcase for the very best of what the Languedoc can produce.”

The scripts for Along Came Jones were written by copywriter John Bacon and the artwork designed by illustrator Jack Lewis.
