Denbies taps into trend for zero-dosage

Denbies Wine Estate is tapping into the trend for zero-dosage sparkling wines with its latest newcomer.

The Surrey-based producer is launching two new Cubitt Reserves to its premium sparkling wine portfolio, one of which, the Cubitt Reserve Blanc de Blancs 2013, is a zero dosage sparkling Chardonnay. The wine is pale straw in colour and is described as having flavours of brioche and buttered toast on the palate.

The second newcomer is Denbies Cubitt Reserve Blanc de Noirs 2013, which is made from hand-picked Pinot Noir grapes. The wine is pale gold in colour with a full body and creamy texture. On the palate it is mineral and crisp with a rounded mouthfeel and a lasting finish, according to the producer.

Chief winemaker, John Worontschak, said: “I was tasked in 2013 to create a new ultra-premium duo of sparkling wines to rival England’s finest and it is so exciting to finally see the Cubitts packaged and ready to go. The Blanc de Blancs is a 100% Chardonnay, partially aged in barrique from the hillside vineyard and bottled Brut Zero, whereas the Blanc de Noirs is 100% Pinot Noir grown on our Yes tree site. Both have benefitted from extended maturation on less and cork ageing prior to release and display a finesse, creaminess and complexity that is only found in the finest of Méthode Champenoise wines.”

The Blanc de Blancs 2013 is priced at £42 a bottle, while the Blanc de Noirs 2013 will be £34.
