Dom Pérignon 2009 released
Dom Pérignon has released its vintage 2009 cuvée and chef de cave Richard Geoffroy is raving about its quality.
“We needed to learn from all the past vintages to dare to produce 2009,” he said. “Dom Pérignon 2009 would certainly not be what it is without the experience gained while producing Dom Pérignon Vintage 2003, the first of a fantastic decade to rise to so many challenges.
“It is one of the seminal vintages that encourages winemakers to go beyond what they already know: to take risks and keep on growing.”
Geoffroy said 2009 began with “unfavourable conditions that lasted for some time”, including a harsh winter and a wet, mild spring.
Flowering was problematic and storms in July worried the team, but he said August was “perfect”, with a hot, dry period lasting up to a hailstorm on September 4.
Harvest began on September 12 and the grapes were said to be “magnificently mature and flawlessly healthy”.
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2009 has an rrp of £130.
