Plans submitted for Dartmoor distillery

Plans have been submitted for a new whisky distillery in the Dartmoor National Park.

Princetown Distillers has submitted the plans for the demolition of two industrial units and the construction of a distillery, visitor centre and small scale spirit storage at Station Road in the village of Princetown.

If successful, it will be the second new whisky distillery in the National Park following the opening of the Kickstarter-funded Dartmoor Whisky Distillery in the Old Town Hall in Bovey Tracey earlier this year.

Documents submitted with the planning application say that the site will produce “Scotch-style” whisky and provide jobs for 22 people when at full capacity.

It adds that a retail element selling “whisky-related items … will be carefully specified so as not to compete with other local businesses”.
