LIWF 2013 moves to a Monday to attract more independents

Organisers have changed the dates of the London International Wine Fair in a bid to attract more independent retailers.

The 2013 show will now take place from Monday, May 20, to Wednesday, May 22.

It is the first time the ExCeL-based show has ever taken in a Monday – it has always run Tuesday to Thursday – and organisers Brintex made the change as they believe it is retailers’ quietest day.

Exhibition director James Murray, who conducted “extensive research” among visitors and exhibitors over the summer, said: “We have had an overwhelmingly positive response that Monday would be preferable to Thursday.

“As a result of the change, we are expecting to attract a greater number of the on-trade as well as independents who tend to be quieter on Mondays and more able to leave their businesses to spend time at the show.”

This year’s show attracted 13,431 visitors compared to last year’s 13,754.
