Portman Group appoints new panel members

The Portman Group has appointed two new members to its Independent Complaints Panel, which considers complaints about irresponsible alcohol marketing under the body’s code of practice.

Doreen McIntyre, who has 20 years’ experience in health promotion and who has worked for No Smoking Day, the Waste & Resources Action Programme and the International Non-Governmental Coalition Against Tobacco, and Elisabeth Ribbans, a managing editor at the Guardian, have joined the panel for a three-year term.

Dr Martyn Percy, who has completed a six year term, is stepping down.

Sir Richard Tilt, chairman of the Independent Complaints Panel, who made the appointments, said: “Panel members play a key role in upholding the strict standards that are set for alcohol marketing in the UK and it is important that we have a diverse membership to consider complaints about irresponsible alcohol marketing and promotions.

“This has been a very competitive process and Doreen and Elisabeth will bring a great depth of experience to our role as the independent arbiter for responsible alcohol marketing.”
