How to play
Study the player list at drinksretailingnews.co.uk/fantasyrugby to pick your team. With a huge choice of players it is important to select those you feel can lead your team to glory.
The Rugby World Cup starts on Sept 7 and finishes, 48 games later, on Oct 20.
The coach selects his/her fantasy team consisting of real-life rugby players participating in the tournament. The team must consist of 15 players covering the following positions:
One scrum half
One fly half
Four outside backs
One full back
No more than three players can be selected from any one country and, for each game phase, one player must be assigned as the designated kicker. The coach then earns points based on the real-life performances of rugby players during their World Cup matches as follows:
Try 5 pts
Try assists 3 pts
Penalty kick, conversion or drop kick (kicker only) 1 pt
Yellow card -1 pt
Red card -2 pts
Appearance (more than 40 minutes) 2 pts
Part appearance 2 pts
Points, both positive and negative, count double during phase six.
The World Cup game is split into six game phases as follows:
Phases one to five: group games (eight matches per phase)
Phase six: quarter-finals to final (including third place playoff)
During the tournament a coach can react to player form and availability by using transfers to change some
selected players. The coach is allocated 15 transfers and can use up to five in any one phase. A total of seven game news e-mails will be sent to coaches during the cup, updating them on their progress in the game.
Entries can be made right up until the start of the opening match. Once the tournament is under way, entries can still be made and will start scoring from the next match.
