Bargain Booze growth lifts its Christmas presence
Discount drinks retailer Bargain Booze is planning to open 14 new franchises by Christmas.
The stores will be opened in the area around the retailer's heartland of north west England. Eight will be operated under the Select Convenience fascia.
Joint managing director Matthew Hughes said the success of its convenience format - launched this year - has helped to drive the business forward.
He said: "It's getting harder and harder out there. The minimum wage is going up and other costs are going up, but retail prices don't, so the margin keeps getting squeezed.
"I think we'll probably see the format growing in other areas of the marketplace. People like Thresher have already recognised that it's an important part of the business."
He added: "It's very exciting times for us. Trade's tough, because we've had a poor summer in terms of weather and we didn't have a World Cup, so I'm sure most retailers are finding it tough, but we are certainly excited about the future."
